Australia one of the biggest markets for Lewis Capaldi on Apple Music

Australia is the fourth largest market in the world for Apple Music for the 22-year old prodigy.

Australia is one of major breakthrough Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi’s biggest markets for Apple Music.

The ranking was released by the streaming service via Music Week.

Australia is the fourth largest market in the world for Apple Music for the 22-year old prodigy, after the UK, the US, Canada and Germany (where he was signed) and before France, South Africa, Ireland, Russia and Japan.

The news coincided with news that his debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, out through EMI on Friday, May 17 is the most pre-added album (113,000 units) on Apple Music in the UK.

His hit 'Someone You Loved’, which stayed atop the charts for seven weeks, has sold almost one million units in the UK and is Apple Music’s most streamed track in his home territory.

His debut single ‘Bruises’ was an immediate viral sensation, making him the fastest ever unsigned artist to amass 25 million plays on Spotify.

George Ergatoudis, head of Apple Music, UK and Ireland, said of his latest feat, "For Lewis to break the record for pre-adds with his first album is an incredible achievement.

In the era of streaming, the industry is closely observing young acts who are bringing the album back to the fore, Capaldi and Billie Eilish are two on label's watch lists.

Virgin/EMI president Ted Cockle says their research shows that when consumers find one Capaldi track, they immediately seek others.
