This year drew 1,400 submissions, the largest response in recent history, WAM said, all running for a share in the $45,000 prize pool.

This year’s new sponsor additions have added to the prizes: the Freo-Social venue is offering free rehearsal space while O Heart Songwriters Club is offering four free memberships: two for the Grand Prize winner and one for each of the runners up.

Freo.Social is also where the WAM song of the year awards party is held (from 6 pm on Wednesday June 26) with sets from gloom pop two-piece Echo Adore, hip-hop MC Flewnt, indie rockers Pat Chow, Persian world fusion artist Tara Tiba, with Rhubarb Records DJs and host Odette Mercy.
