Troye Sivan tapped for Joel Edgerton’s next film project

Troye Sivan is about to make the unlikely leap from bedroom producer to award-winning, international breakthrough pop star and now feature film actor.

The Perth-raised producer and singer has been tapped to star in Joel Edgerton’s next film project, the gay conversion drama Boy Erased.

Also joining the cast is another Australian, the Melbourne-born bass player Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers while writer-director Xavier Dolan is on board.

The film traces the story of a Baptist minister’s son (Garrard Conley, played by 'Machester By the Sea's' Lucas Hedges) who is outed by his folks (played by Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe) and forced into a church-supported gay conversion program.

Boy Erased is in pre-production and is tipped for release in 2018, according to the IMDB.

For Edgerton, Boy Erased is his next foray into filmmaking after his directorial debut with the 2015 thriller The Gift, which was praised by critic Margaret Pomeranz for its intelligence and cool, arthouse look.

Sivan has enjoyed some well-earned downtime after his whirlwind rise which saw him crack the top 10 on the Billboard 200 on three occasions (all in the space of 15 months), top the Australian albums chart and net a pair of ARIA Awards. Earlier this year, he released the single and video for “There for You,” his collaboration with Dutch DJ Martin Garrix.
