Music and Media Unite to Back Youth Cancer Initiative at Sony Foundation's Wharf4Ward
Australia’s music and media industries once again united for Sony Foundation’s flagship fundraiser Wharf4Ward.

Australia’s music and media industries once again united for Sony Foundation’s flagship fundraiser Wharf4Ward, which returned to Sydney’s Woolloomooloo Wharf yesterday (March 19th).
Affectionately dubbed “Sydney’s Longest Lunch,” the annual event brought together leading artists, broadcasters, and corporate partners to raise funds for young Australians facing cancer, with a particular focus on those forced to relocate from regional areas for treatment.
This year’s entertainment lineup featured performances from ARIA-winning artist Ben Lee, indie-pop rising star Jem Cassar-Daley, and R&B/pop newcomer KYE. Hosting duties were shared by Nine’s Karl Stefanovic, Peter Overton, and Richard Wilkins, Nova’s Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli and Kate Ritchie, and Seven Network’s Matt Shirvington and Natalie Barr, among others.
Funds raised from the 2026 event will go towards Sony Foundation’s You Can Stay initiative, which provides free, uncapped accommodation for regional and rural Australians aged 15-29 who must travel to metropolitan centres for life-saving cancer treatment. Since launching in 2020, the program has delivered more than 45,000 nights of accommodation in partnership with Quest Apartment Hotels.
Sony Foundation CEO Sophie Ryan-McPhee said the initiative continues to address a critical gap in Australia’s healthcare system. “Wharf4Ward is more than a fundraiser; it’s a symbol of what can be achieved when industries, talent, and communities unite for a common goal,” she said. “In 2026, we aim to continue funding thousands of nights for regional and rural families navigating the financial and emotional toll of accessing life-saving cancer treatment far from home.”
Among those supported by the program is 21-year-old Alana Barraclough from Queanbeyan, who was diagnosed with a high-grade glioma brain tumour. After undergoing multiple surgeries and radiation treatment in Sydney, Alana and her family have received more than 70 nights of accommodation through the initiative, easing the financial and emotional strain of prolonged treatment away from home.
Since its inception in 2010, Wharf4Ward has raised more than $15 million for Sony Foundation’s broader You Can program, which supports youth cancer services nationwide.
