PayPal bans torrent streaming site

Payment provider PayPal has banned torrent download site Streamza from using its safe online pay service.

Torrentfreak reports PayPal stopped providing its service earlier this week, thus freezing all funds.

PayPal have long held a strong disposition in their stance against file-sharing sites. In January the service demanded private tracker invitations for the BitTorrent websites that use it. The request to access certain site’s CMS’ was a result of rightsholders and anti-piracy companies requesting PayPal and similar websites disassociate with copyright-infringing sites.

In the past this has meant PayPal have frozen funds coming into sites they deem do not comply with its terms and conditions - which in some cases trade legitimately.

Streamza was launched in September last year by Polish developer and CEO of web project host Wikidot Michal Frackowiak, to allow users to stream music and video securely from the cloud onto laptops, desktops and iOS devices.

Frackowiak spoke to TorrentFreak revealing he was contacted by PayPal for not meeting its terms and conditions.

“They emailed to inform me that my PayPal account had been reviewed and that Streamza does not comply with their policies. My account became ‘limited’ until I removed PayPal from checkout and agreed to their policies, which I did immediately.”

Streamza is now unable to process new and recurring membership fees from premium subscribers.
