Sydney pop-punk group BESTIES have signed to independent alternative label Greyscale Records, celebrated with the release of their new single “Deadmau5”.

The band said it can be “hard finding people who get you, or what you’re trying to do”, but Greyscale “understood we’re not trying to do anything”. They said: “We’re just idiots with instruments, and that’s why we work.

"In a scene and industry where people are so deathly serious, it’s been a godsend to find people who understand that there’s a path to success while sticking true to who you are. We know there’s a thirst out there for a band and a sound that takes its cues from the lighter side of life. And we know that band’s us,” BESTIES said.

Leading the new partnership is the band’s new release “Deadmau5”, a fun, tongue-in-cheek anthem for those refusing to surrender to expectations and conventional ideas of adulthood.

Described as being “about that time in everyone’s life where they feel they need to grow up… and doing the complete opposite of that”, the song encourages people to do what they want, be who they want to be, and be with who they want to be with.

As the band put it: "Life’s too short to be safe, take a risk and don’t forget through it all, you’re still that dumb emo kid at heart, just like us.”

Helmed by producer Nat J. Sherwood (Stand Atlantic, Yours Truly) and flanked by vocalist Max Pasalic, drummer Brad Cronan and guitarist James Venites, BESTIES saw early success thanks to their winning entry in triple j’s DIY Supergroup competition in 2022.

Since then, they have steadily become one of the nation's most promising alternative acts. The band landed a coveted triple j Unearthed Feature Artist spotlight and have since appeared at major music conference festivals BIGSOUND and SXSW.

They've completed sold-out national tours and shared stages with artists including Maggie Lindemann, Lil Lotus, Teenage Joans, Goldfinger, Between You & Me, and more. Soon, they’ll take “Deadmau5” and more on the road when they support Canadian outfit Story Untold on their Australian tour.

BESTIES’ "Deadmau5" is out now via Greyscale Records.
