A new coalition of music content owners, anti-piracy groups and advertising industry members are set to meet in Italy this week to sign a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding).

The MoU follows similar letters of intent in both the UK and US to prevent file-sharing sites receiving advertising revenues.

In the US, Google, Microsoft, AOL and Yahoo were among the advertising companies to vow to accept notices from rightsholders against infringing content. AOL Networks, Yahoo, Google and Mircosoft even established self-regulating policies to discourage or prevent piracy. In the UK, the City of London Police launched an official blacklist of infringing websites for advertising agencies to use.

According to Torrentfreak, the move to create a central committee to handle online piracy in Europe will be announced at the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s IAB Events 2014 conference later this week.

The committee will address complaints from rightsholders and approach the offending brokers and the advertisers themselves.
