Eat Sleep Rave Repeat (Calvin Harris Remix)
HUSSLE/UMA

While his current single continues to rise up the charts (currently #31 on the Hot 100), Calvin Harris is set to impact radios around the country again with a new banger, this time a remix of Fatboy Slim, Riva Starr and Beardyman’s recent killer Eat Sleep Rave Repeat. For the record, it’s also become the longest track name, title and remix I’ve had to write out in recent memory. In any case, it’s a good track. Harking back to a time when the Roland TB 303 (for those of you who don’t know its the bassline machine that gave acid house it’s sound) was king, Harris’ treatment of the song draws inspiration from the original’s subtle use of the acid bassline, enhances it, throws a chorus on it, enhances it up some more, turns it up to 11 and really smacks you in the face with it repeatedly - and I’m ok with that.

Calvin Harris ain’t gon’ let the song get weighed down by things like the original quirky vocal, from which he cuts only the important bits, or drops that aren’t epic, because he’s a man of the people: he gives them what they want, and that is a slap in the bass (see what I did there?). Bad puns and possibly negative comments hiding as compliments aside, I do like this track - it’s got clubland appeal, it’s also ready for radio and I think it’ll do wonderfully.

Well done Mr Harris, I’m sure this killed it at Stereosonic over the weekend.
