Cynthia Erivo Defends Ariana Grande From Attack at 'Wicked' Premiere

Ariana Grande experienced a disturbing security breach during the Wicked: For Good premiere in Singapore when an aggressive fan grabbed her during a red carpet appearance.

The attack occurred as Grande walked the yellow carpet alongside fans who had gathered to greet the Wicked cast (as per Rolling Stone). A man identified as Johnson Wen forcefully grabbed the singer and actress, pulling her into an unwanted embrace. Security personnel appeared slow to react, but Cynthia Erivo quickly intervened, shoving the attacker away from her co-star before checking on Grande's wellbeing.

Wen operates under the alias "Pyjama Man" and has established himself as a self-proclaimed "stage invader" who deliberately disrupts live events. The Australian resident has previously breached security at performances by Katy Perry, the Weeknd, and the Chainsmokers, demonstrating a pattern of unauthorised interactions with performing artists.

The attacker's social media activity reveals a concerning level of delusion regarding the incident. In an Instagram post featuring video footage of him rushing Grande, Wen wrote: "Dear Ariana Grande Thank You for letting me Jump on the Yellow Carpet with You." His account biography includes the statement "Ariana Grande is the Queen," suggesting an obsessive fixation with the performer.

During the attack, Wen removed his shoes and approached wearing only white socks, a T-shirt, and shorts. Grande appeared visibly frightened as he jumped up and down while gripping her shoulders. Erivo was heard shouting at the attacker before focusing entirely on consoling her shaken co-star, who was subsequently ushered away from the carpet area.

Wen has restricted comments on his Instagram post about the encounter following criticism from fans. His previous social media content documents other instances of public disruption in various locations including libraries, food courts, and public transportation. One fan commented: "What you did was so disrespectful not only to Ariana herself, but also to all the actual fans who waited years to meet her."

Additional footage from their Singapore appearance shows Grande and Erivo making a swift exit to their waiting vehicle, bypassing any fan interactions. The Wicked stars proceeded directly to their transport as supporters watched from a distance.

The premiere tour concludes with a final event in New York next week, though enhanced security measures are expected following this breach.
