Music documentaries Coldplay: A Head Full of Dreams and South Korean K-pop boy band BTS’s Burn The Stage: The Movie are setting strong figures in their first week, says distributor Trafalgar Releasing.

The Coldplay movie was released in 70 countries on a one-night-only basis.

It drew a total of 300,000 attendees with a global box office of more than US$3.5 million.

It took the #1 spot in the Netherlands, # 2 in Australia, the UK and Italy, and #5 in the U.S.

Burn The Stage generated revenue of $14 million from 79 countries and 2,650 theaters.

It broke the global event cinema record, toppling fellow boyband One Direction.

It sold 1.4 million tickets whereas One Direction: Where We Are claimed 1.2 million admissions in 2014.

Almost a million tickets were sold in days before the screening.

In the US, Burn The Stage drew $3.6 million, becoming the highest-grossing event cinema music production in that country.

In the UK it was the weekend’s #6 biggest release, with $830,000.

It also achieved 100,000 admissions in the Philippines and Indonesia, gained a $14,000 screen average in Denmark and reached $800,000 in box office in Germany and Austria.

“It’s been extraordinary to witness yet again, through these two very distinct acts, the power of the big screen to bring fans together,” said Trafalgar CEO Marc Allenby.
