Given that her global acclaim has given the Gold Coast music scene a jolt of excitement – she’s just wrapped up 30 shows in seven countries –  it’s no surprise that Amy Shark notched up four nominations for the  Gold Coast Music Awards.

She’s up for the artist, live act, song and video of the year categories.

But in a test of the buoyancy of the scene, also receiving four nominations were indie folk duo Hollow Coves.

Ryan Henderson and Matt Carins met in 2013 and infused their folk approach with sounds picked up from their global travels.

The Wanderlust EP and debut track ‘The Woods’ (which got millions of plays around the world) struck a chord.

They’re currently on their first North American tour, doing eleven shows between March 28 and April 13.

Hussy Hicks, Black Rabbit George, Casey Barnes, Ella Fence and Eliza and the Delusionals picked up multiple nominations.

Altogether there were 26 finalists across eight categories.

The awards are held on Thursday May 3 on the beachfront with a massive free concert to kick off Surfers Paradise LIVE festival.

"It's been a massive year for Gold Coast music and the fact that one third of this year's finalists will be showcased to the world while the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games is in town is testament to the calibre of talent being recognised," said awards director, Samantha Morris.
