The Association of Artist Managers Australia (AAM), set up to encourage younger execs to reach for high hanging fruit, has launched two mentoring programs.

Grow and a state version of the national Co-Pilot are both for artist managers based in Victoria.

Grow is a three-month virtual program for female managers running their own businesses and struggling with gender inequality and feel the need for business skills to take the next step.

The initiative begins in January and applications to participate are now open.

Supported by Creative Victoria, the program works on two levels – peer-to-peer mentoring with leaders in the fields of law, business and mental health and wellness. and group webinars focused on business acumen.

Participants will build business plans, become more financially literate and build leadership skills.

AAM specifically designed Grow to offset disturbing data from various studies involving lack o opportunity for, and a bias against, women in the music industry.

An AAM survey found that retention and longevity for female managers decrease after age 35.

The four-month Co-Pilot (Victoria) is open to all levels of managers to ensure they can re-model, re-build and re-tool to have a sustainable and successful future, the association said.
