It’s three cheers to Winston Surfshirt, the Australian funksters who this week was presented with plaques to celebrate triple certification for their sophomore set Apple Crumble.

The band members, reps for Astral People and engineer George Nicholas were on hand to receive gold records for "Smile", "Make A Move" and "For The Record," all of which appeared on the 2019 set.

“I wanted to make music forever and somehow had this blind belief, plus support from my family, that it would just happen one day cause I didn't really know anything else,” the band explains in a statement to TMN.

“If I was told at a young age that I’d have one platinum, one double platinum and three gold records in Australia I probably would have laughed. I try to make music that I want to listen to and hope that it would someday resonate with other people."

To have "the love we have in Australia is unbelievable."

Winston is managed by Sydney-based Astral People, thanks to a fortuitous introduction back in 2016 by one of the company’s artists, Moktar.

“We’ve been in love with those boys ever since,” says co-founder Tom Huggett.

“Be About You” was “the first demo we ever heard from them and we knew immediately that this was a timeless song, to see it now going double platinum all these years later proves this," he continues.

"On top of that, to see three songs from their last album all turn Gold shows that Winston Surfshirt truly have something special going on here with a sound that is really connecting with the people."

Winston are deep in a release cycle with a stack of recent collaborative singles under their belts, including the latest "Maybe I'm In Love With You" featuring Talib Kweli.

Apple Crumble was served-up last December, with a dollop of hip-hop, R&B, funk and soul vibes, and debuted inside the Top 40 on the ARIA Chart.

It’s the follow-up to 2017's triple j Feature Album Sponge Cake, which got a shout out from Elton John, Beats 1 host Zane Lowe and more.
