Channel 9 to air Framing Britney Spears doco next week

The New York Times' documentary which set social media alight, Framing Britney Spears, will be available, legally, to Australian audiences next week.

It will screen on Channel 9 at 9pm on Tuesday, March 2.

The documentary explores the global superstar's rise to fame and fortune, from her childhood to her first record deal, through to the tabloids' obsession with her every move, and the exploitation she faced from all angles.

The documentary's focus is the court-sanctioned conservatorship she has been stuck in for over a decade, and examines what viewers may not know about the pop star's court battle for control of her estate, and he ensuing the #FreeBritney movement.

Internationally, the documentary has been available on streaming service, Hulu, however until now Australian audiences have been deprived.

There had been speculation a streaming service, such as Stan, would secure the rights in Australia. While Channel 9's owner, Nine, also owns Stan, the two strike separate content deals.

It's also been reported that the creators behind Framing Britney Spears are considering a sequel.
