Major label chief Niko Nordström to exit Warner Music Australia

Warner Music Group has revealed Australian boss Niko Nordström is leaving the country and returning to his native, as executive vice president of Warner Music Nordics.

He will also take up the post of managing director for Warner Music Finland based in Helsinki and report to Mark Fry, the newly appointed President of Warner Music Nordics.

Nordström arrived in Australia in 2017, replacing Tony Harlow who relocated to New York to lead the major's global artist and label services arm.

“I’m delighted to be returning to the Nordics after my adventures in Australia," Nordström said.

"I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such a brilliant team here and I’m happy with what we have achieved together."

During his tenure leading Warner Music Australia, the company has enjoyed success with the locally-signed Indigenous artist Thelma Plum and breakout country music star Morgan Evans.

TMN understands Warner Music is planning to name a replacement for Nordström this week as the company gears up its A&R efforts after poaching Paul Harris from Sony Music.

In a statement on Tuesday night, the label said an announcement about Nordström’s successor "will be made soon", and insiders told TMN his replacement is "from outside the company".
