A GoFundMe campaign has started to raise donations for the family of revered Melbourne musician Dave Matthews, who recently passed away.

Renowned as one of the country's most talented drummers, Matthews previously performed with Jess Mauboy, Kate Ceberano, Vanessa Amorosi and Anthony Callea, and acted as in-house drummer for the 2012 season of Australia's Got Talent.

Matthews was also endorsed by a number of prominent drum and cymbal manufacturers, including DW Drums and Kazhzan Cymbals.

He is survived by his wife Angela Librandi and his two children, Marley and Tay.

Fellow musician and GoFundMe starter Gary Pinto remembered Matthews for his talent as an instrumentalist, as well as his kind nature and generosity.

"Dave Matthews is known for his gentleness, kindness and loving nature. He's also regarded as one of Australia's best drummers," Pinto said.

"His passing from this life leaves a huge gap in the lives of those who love him. Please support this young family in any way you can."

Melbourne funk and R&B band Salacious also paid tribute to Matthews in a post to their social media, remembering him as "an inspiration to us all in so many ways".

"Those who witnessed Dave perform would understand the vibe he brought with every single performance," the band wrote.

"We were so privileged to get to know Dave throughout our music career."

Donations to Matthews' family can be made via GoFundMe.
