RÜFÜS - Bloom
[Sweat It Out]
It’s been almost three months since the Sydney-based electronic trio announced sophomore album Bloom. The news was followed by a swift assumption that not only was it possible the band could fall prey to the Album Number Two Blues, but that following up the white knuckled post-punk-infused dance gems on Atlas would be near suicide.
However, tracks like spacious electro endearment Like An Animal, the dopamine-glittered Innerbloom, third single Say A Prayer For Me and the sun-drenched, hedonistic You Were Right, are mesmerising at their most basic. Make no mistake: Bloom is dance music, but it doesn’t endeavour to sit alongside the genre’s chart-toppers. Ironically though, that’s exactly where it should end up.
