triple j have unveiled their 2019 J Awards nominees

It's been a stunning year of local music, now triple j are set to recognise those that made it so with their annual J Awards, releasing this year's nominations earlier today.

Ever since triple j announced their inaugural J Awards back in 2005, the world of Aussie music has looked to the iconic public broadcaster annually as they honour the artists that helped define the year that was.

As years have gone on, the award has expanded from including just the Australian Album of the Year to also awarding recognition to the Unearthed Artist of the Year, Australian Music Video of the Year, and since 2014, the Double J Artist of the Year.

Now, following on from a year which saw Middle Kids, Gurrumul, Kwame, and Mojo Juju taking out top honours, the J Awards are back for 2019, and this time, they've introduced yet another category.

Yes, in addition to all the regular categories, this year also sees the introduction of the You Done Good award, which is presented to someone who has made an impact on the industry through outstanding achievement, social change or altruistic endeavours.

So who's up for recognition this year? Well, the You Done Good award sees the likes of Dylan Alcott, Sarah Aarons, National Indigenous Music Awards, and more in the running, while the Australian Album of the Year award will be a close competition, with big names like G Flip, Stella Donnelly, Sampa The Great, Hilltop Hoods, and Hatchie vying for the title.

Meanwhile, the Unearthed Artist award sees Unearthed High winner George Alice up against Adrian Eagle, The Chats, Tone And I, and more, while the Double J Artist of the Year sees icons like Nick Cave, King Gizz, and Julia Jacklin going against each other.

Finally, beloved artists like Briggs, Flume, and Thelma Plum are all in contention for the Australian Music Video of the Year award.

Veronica & Lewis are set to announce the winners of the 15th annual J Awards on triple j from 4pm on Thursday, November 21. Check out all the nominees below, and be sure to tune in to see who takes home the coveted Aussie honour.
