Hearing this for the first time in the office the other day made me sit up and pay attention. When I found out it was the Potbelleez new single, Magic Number I was surprised, when I was told it featured B.O.B. I was even more surprised and by the end of the track I was pleasantly surprised and re-assured.

The intro riff shouts to trance and big room house, with cascading arpeggiated synths wavering below the catchy uplifting auto tuned chorus vocals by a Potbelly. Wastes no time getting into the drop. Full on driving drum and bass harking back to it’s late 90’s heyday.

The nice break-beat break down welcomes the first verse from B.O.B. who is heavily featured providing 3 verses with some actual content, a refreshing change form the repetitiveness of a lot of main stage EDM singles currently.

Magic Number follows a simple, effective recipe, which is very well executed and follows on the success of artists like Rudimental, Skrillex and Shockone who are helping to take Drum & Bass from a dirty word your old raver friends say to being acceptable in the mainstream.

The track is fast paced, positive, catchy with a solid mixture of pop accessibility and dance sensibility. It’s got summer festival vibes all over it and I look forward to seeing how this gets received on the airwaves.
