Tech company predicts 2018 AIR award winners

Should we hedge our bets on PNAU, Jungle Giants and Touch Sensitive taking home the trophies at the 12^th Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR) awards?

Those are the winners predicted by Australian music tech company Nightlife Music.

Nightlife Music crunched the nominees for the 47 nominees for the awards, held in Adelaide.

Head of analytics, Sean Martin, said collectively over 800,000 plays by the 2018 nominees have been featured in the past year across the Nightlife platform.

“We analysed the data across almost 3,500 venues in Australia that are choosing to showcase Australian indie artists in the playlists we create for them; a weekly listening audience of around 6 million people a week,” Martin said.

PNAU were leaders with 154,000 plays, “showing how on-point our music curators are and just how much exposure we can drive for home-grown talent.

“That’s reinforced by the briefs from our venue clients, which include pubs, clubs, gyms, casinos, restaurants and hotels, that clearly love supporting Australian independent artists.”

Martin said in the streaming era of music, data is highly valued.

“The benefit of our data exceeds the exposure we can drive with independent artists increasingly crossing over to mainstream playlists,” he noted.

“It also underpins a more transparent approach to distributing royalties and ultimately, stamping out copyright infringement in the public performance space.”
