Tame Impala's 'The Less I Know The Better' clocks up 1 billion streams

Tame Impala's Kevin Parker has become the latest act to join APRA AMCOS' 1,000,000,000 List after his track 'The Less I Know the Better' hit the milestone on streaming services.

'The Less I Know The Better' is lifted from Tame Impala's 2015 album, Currents. The song is currently quadruple platinum in Australia, platinum in the UK and double platinum in the US. It has also gained significant usage on TikTok in the past year.

According to Parker, the song was originally written and intended for a Mark Ronson album.

"During the recording session, I was working myself up to tell him I was going to take it back," he said in a statement. However, before he could, Ronson told him he should keep it for himself.

"I owe APRA a lot, thank you everyone, this means a lot. Thanks for supporting me."

APRA AMCOS head Dean Ormston praised Parker as "a highly acclaimed songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, performing, recording artist" and "visionary".

"He has created a sound and a global following, and has the world’s best creatives queuing to work with him. It's a testament to Kevin’s work that his 2015 hit 'The Less I Know the Better' has remained globally current. APRA AMCOS and all of our staff are so proud to support Kevin and celebrate his global achievements," he said.

Parker joins a list that currently features fellow Aussie songwriters Sia, Flume, Toni Watson (Tones And I), Gotye, Vance Joy and 5 Seconds of Summer, among others.

The artist's induction follows his recent win at the APRA Music Awards, where he took home the Songwriter of the Year award for his 2020 album The Slow Rush.
