A current Google staff member and an ex-exec have been tapped to work for Spotify.

Omid Kordestani, the current chief business officer of Google is joining the board of Spotify, while Shishir Mehrotra, who moved from his role as YouTube’s Head of Product to an advisory role at Google before departing in June, will now advise Spotify CEO Daniel Ek.

Re/code broke the news, reporting that people with knowledge of the situation confirmed both appointments.

The new ties between Google and Spotify come at an interesting time as Google readies YouTube’s controversial music subscription service, which will reportedly launch later this year.

Spotify has also made headlines this year over a rumoured IPO; the streaming service hired a US financial reporting specialist, then acquired US music intelligence company The Echo Nest, and in March the Swedish music streaming service secured a $200 million credit line.

Spotify Australia told TMN they will not be commenting on the new appointments.
