Shazam has announced a partnership with Juno, a UK-based online dance music store, to add four million dance tracks to its 35 million+ database - 110,000 of which are currently only available on vinyl.
Considering many dance tracks currently ‘break’ in nightclubs both here and internationally by club DJs who are handed vinyl singles from artists and labels, the partnership means listeners will be aware of what they are hearing thanks to the music identification service.
“Many of the releases we stock and sell are often not available on commercial download stores for weeks after their release on Juno," said Richard Atherton, MD Juno. "So we believe that we can bring an extra dimension to Shazam’s already excellent service.”
Shazam is more than aware of vinyl’s current revival. In Australia alone the sale of vinyl is up 77% from 2012 and globally, the sale of 12” vinyl singles is up 60% on last year.
“Crucially some of the most important and exciting new music is released on vinyl first before later hitting digital,” said Shazam’s VP of Music and Content, Will Mills. “So this gives Shazam’s 420 million global users an even better experience with the world’s newest and most innovative music which is sometimes beyond the digital ecosystem.”
