PPCA and Australia Council open sound recording grant applications for 2021

PPCA and the Australia Council have opened applications for the 2021 round of their sound recording grant scheme.

Every year since 2013, the two organisations have dished out grants of $15,000 to recording artists across a variety of genres including hip hop, indie rock, R&B, contemporary classical and more. Previous recipients of the grants include Courtney Barnett, Miiesha, All Our Exes Live In Texas and Jane Stanley.

Five recording grants will be made available in 2021, with applications open until April 13. Submissions will be assessed by a panel of industry advisors on artistic merit, diversity and viability.

"The program has delivered not only recordings that have enjoyed critical success, but covered a really diverse range of genres and styles," PPCA chair George Ash said in a statement.

"It is an initiative we are very proud of, and we can’t wait to see what this year’s group of grant recipients create.”

Australia Council head of music, Kirsty Rivers, added: "Our research shows 92% of Australians listen to recorded music. Music provides a soundtrack for our lives, bringing us joy, connection, solace and helping us through our days.

“We are once again delighted to be working again with the PPCA to fund the creation of new Australian recordings and welcome applications from artists across all genres and regions to apply.”
