Internet radio app Pandora was the #1 most-downloaded music app and the app to bring in the highest revenue in September, according to app and mobile analytics company App Annie.
In its first-ever Music App Index report, released yesterday, App Annie found listening apps account for 70% of the Top 10 downloads and revenue. Streaming service Spotify ranked as the #2 most-downloaded app in September, SoundCloud’s Music Downloader at #3, iHeartRadio at #4 and the full SoundCloud app at #5. Apple’s Beats Music sat at #7, presumably because it’s the only music listening app in the Top 10 without a freemium, ad-supported model.
In terms of revenue for last month, Pandora was followed again by Spotify, then Beats Music at #3, Rdio at #4 (which isn’t listed in the report’s Top 10 most-downloaded) and Rhapsody at #5.
Pandora launched in Australia and New Zealand in 2012, twelve years after Tim Westergren founded the company in the US.
