Independent publisher Native Tongue has signed Brisbane-based writer and producer Konstantin Kersting.

His track record includes work with Mallrat, Tia Gostelow, The Jungle Giants and The Belligerents.

In fact Mallrat's 'Better', which he co-wrote and produced, this week won Best Unpublished Work in the Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition.

He says, "'Better' was the first song I’d ever written with another songwriter in a co-write setting and it was such an amazing experience.

“I’m extremely grateful that people have heard this song and have resonated with it so deeply.

“For it to now get recognition by such a well-respected international songwriting competition is absolutely mind-blowing.”

Coming from a musical family, Kersting started out playing violin at a young age, but switched to bass in his teens and joined The Belligerents.

Of the Native Tongue partnership, Kersting acclaims, “Their team have shown an incredible passion and drive for the careers of their songwriters and producers alike and it feels great to be welcomed into the fold.

“I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together over the coming years!"

Native Tongue’s MD, Jaime Gough adds, "Kon has been the driving force behind a number of songs and albums we’ve been enjoying over the past couple of years.

“Whilst relatively new to collaborative songwriting, it’s clear Kon is a natural and that his production and engineering knowledge give him an edge in these sessions.

“It’s great to see his co-write with Mallrat receiving this accolade, and we see ourselves being an integral part of Kon’s team going forward."
