The National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) will in fact go ahead this year, just not as an in-person event.

The awards have already been postponed due to COVID-19, with organisers subsequently looking for ways to honour First Nations artists.

It seems they have now found a solution, partnering with triple j, Double J and triple j Unearthed to create a radio event on Sunday, November 14.

The event will include announcing the winners, as well as exclusive performances. It will be hosted by Yuin man Nooky, who also hosts triple j's Blak Out program.

"NIMA, NIMA, NIMA, pumpkin eater. I'm pumped to be hosting the NIMAs and celebrating the mob. It's been a big year for Blak music and it's mad we get to celebrate it here on Blak Out. It's the two hours of power special and I'm G'd up. Let's go," he said.

NIMA creative director, Ben Graetz, said: “It’s unfortunate that the live event is unable to go ahead this year at the Darwin amphitheatre but I am extremely excited to be working with Nooky and all the team at triple j, celebrating musical Blak Excellence through the radio."

The National Indigenous Music Awards will be broadcast on triple j, Double J and triple j Unearthed from 5-7pm (AEDT) on Sunday, November 14.
