US humanitarian, activist, filmmaker and artist Michael Franti stopped by Universal Music Australia’s soon-to-be-launched studio yesterday.

Franti was at Forbes Street Studios in the Sydney suburb of Woolloomooloo, adjacent to UMA’s headquarters, to mentor the youths involved with grassroots charity Musicians Making A Difference (MMAD). Michael Franti and his band Spearhead were in the country celebrating the release of ninth studio album Soulrocker and performed sold out shows in Melbourne Sydney and is heading to Queensland today.

Last year’s MMAD campaign had 10 rising star kids from the ‘Rise Up’  program, along with Australian artists Tuka and KLP, record the single #MMAD4U at The Grove Studios with Scott Horscroft.  This year another 10 kids will join the 2016 roll out.  The new single was recently recorded again at Grove and is currently being finalised.

During the mentoring session, Franti expressed his eagerness to contribute to the 2016 campaign single.  The artists and producers working on #MMAD4U 2016,  together with the release date for the campaign single, will be announced by UMA as those details are locked in.

2015 MMAD4U marked the first charity single from the program, which was created to help young people break negative cycles, feel a sense of self-worth and make positive choices.

UMA is a supporting sponsor of MMAD and last year tapped Australian artists 5 Seconds of Summer, Tuka, Troye Sivan, Birds of Tokyo, KLP, Justice Crew and the Potbelleez for the national campaign #MMAD4U Day, on November 23, 2015.

Forbes Street Studios features a state-of-the-art recording studio with SSL console, an Audio over IP interview booth, a writing room with hi-end vocal recording capabilities and a comprehensive Avid editing suite. It’s expected to receive an official launch next month.
