Make Music Day 2019: From train gigs to uke jams and livestreams

Make Music Day, where Australians are encouraged to express themselves, returns on Friday, June 21.

Performances can be in venues, streets, parks, plazas, paddocks and verandas to share their music with friends, neighbours and strangers.

There will be live sets on Sydney Trains in NSW.

Orange Regional Conservatorium in NSW hosts ukulele jam sessions which includes learning to play the uke.

Queensland Performing Arts Centre is hosting Green Jam, a series of free gigs every Friday in June from 5:30pm.

Mathers House in Hobart will host a two-hour concert featuring five performances of all ages.

The Yamaha Keyboard Club presents the Shake It Up concert at Queensland’s Nambour Anglican Church Hall.

The Australian Chamber Orchestra previews its Indies & Idols tour at the Art Gallery of NSW.

Live from the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra will globally livestream Music of the Oud with Joseph Tawadros from 7 pm AEST.

In Victoria’s Dandenong Ranges, community groups will perform, hold workshops and jam sessions, and feature roving minstrels.

Adelaide will celebrate Winter Solstice aka its shortest day and longest night, with Mixed Spice Creative Studios hosting The Ukulele Dream Girl’s Make Music Night. Local performers will play but audience members can join in.

Make Music Day Australia was initiated by the Australian Music Association and coordinated with the Live Music Office and APRA AMCOS.

Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in 800 cities in 120 countries.
