Jaguar Jonze reveals #MeToo inspiration behind Eurovision entry

Musician and #MeToo movement trailblazer Jaguar Jonze has revealed more details about her Eurovision entry song 'Little Fires'.

Jonze has spent the past couple of years agitating for change in Australia's music industry, calling for an end to sexual harm and abuses of power, as well as for more recognition and equality for female performers.

She appeared on The Project last week to spell out the song's meaning and what it can represent in the context of Eurovision.

"My journey in the last two years has been really interesting, but also really difficult and I had to put my artistry aside to advocate for the awareness of sexual harm and the abuse of power in the Australian music industry, and so 'Little Fires' is kind of encapsulating that journey for me, and allowing everyone to see the more raw, vulnerable side of Jaguar Jonze, and the fight that was around the Me Too movement," she said.

"I honestly think what makes Eurovision so good, is it should be representing humanity, and humanity is all about the obstacles and the challenges and the adversities and how you meet them," she added.

"So for me, 'Little Fires' is about fighting for something that's bigger than yourself, and how, like, what amazing things can happen when you work together, and that every little fire can be fanned into a blaze of reckoning."

She said everyone should be able to relate to the song's message, given the tumultuous two years people have been through thanks to the pandemic.

Eurovision – Australia Decides will be hosted by Joel Creasey and Myf Warhurst, and will see Jonze compete against the likes of Paulini and Isaiah Firebrace for a spot in the European competition.

The live TV final takes place on Saturday, February 26.

The Eurovision event will then take place in May in Italy.
