Inertia Music has lost two of the world's biggest artists

With Adele having signed a global deal with Sony Music Entertainment, and recent news of Sia's move from Sony to Warner, Inertia Music has confirmed to TIO that neither act will release their future albums through the label.

As reported by TIO last week, Sia made the switch from her global home Sony Music to license her music through WMG’s Atlantic Records. All future releases, including her upcoming Christmas album, will be released via Atlantic and her own label, Monkey Puzzle.

The announcement followed the launch of Future Crush Music in February last year, a joint venture label between Sia’s management team Crush Music and Warner Music Group.

TIO understands Inertia Music will continue to work Sia's back catalogue as its relationship with the global act remains close.

Adele left her long-time home at XL Recordings to sign a global multi-album contract with the Sony Music. Announced in May 2016, and with a headline value of £90m (AU$148), the deal has been touted as the biggest record deal in history. This means future releases from Adele will not be released in Australia through Remote Control, who use Inertia as their distributor.

These losses are obviously a major blow for Inertia. Sia and Adele are two of the globe's biggest names in music: Adele, a 15x Grammy winner, has sold in excess of 2 million albums in Australia alone, while Sia has shifted over 200,000 records in her homeland.

On April 1, world-renowned music company [PIAS] took over ownership of Inertia Music, with Inertia taking over representation of [PIAS]'s artist and label roster in Australia.
