A second major Melbourne sports and concert venue has had a name change, effective immediately.

Following from Etihad Stadium becoming Marvel Stadium this year, Hisense Arena, will become Melbourne Arena for at least the next five years.

Tennis Australia bought the naming rights to the venue “so we had the opportunity for this to be named Melbourne Arena,” TA chef executive Craig Tiley said.

“What a great way to pay homage to the Melbourne sports and entertainment fan – renowned globally for their knowledge and passion.”

Minister for sports, tourism and major events John Eren stressed it was a chance to bring the Melbourne brand to life on an international stage.

The Australian Open tennis series is locked into Melbourne Park until 2036.

But it is not definite that the name will remain until that long.

Although the venue is already operating under its new name, updated venue signage, website and social pages will only be changed “over the coming months.”

Patrons were told, “You'll be able to find us at HisenseArena.com.au for a little while yet.”
