Disgruntled band accuses Masked Singer of nicking their arrangement

Copyright claims are so hot right now, even in the world of cover recordings.

A band from North America is accusing the creators of Network Ten’s The Masked Singer Australia of ripping off the arrangement to their cover of the Billie Eilish hit 'Bad Guy'.

Halocene, from Phoenix, posted a 12-minute video titled 'The Masked Singer Stole Our Cover of Bad Guy' on their Facebook page.

They point out similarities of their ‘Bad Guy’ cover which they claim to have first posted in April.

"There are things that aren't even present in the Billie Eilish version, which includes distinct chord changes, the guitar, the bassline, instrumental melodies, vocals, even the ad-libs, drums, strings, male feature choir, group vocals," said Halocene co-founder, Brad Amick.

They've also set up a GoFundMe in the hopes of raising legal fees to sue the show's producers.

Halocene’s website claims they have 120 million YouTube views and 622,000 unique Spotify streams over the past six years.

His wife, Addie, adds: "Even, like the drum fills and the pauses and stuff."

Before they play the two versions, they insist: "There's no way it can be construed as just inspiration. It's virtually a carbon copy."

The Lion was unmasked as Kate Ceberano who performed the song on Episode 3, but there is absolutely no suggestion she was aware of any alleged arrangement similarities.

There has been no response yet from the show’s producers.
