TMN can exclusively reveal that Soundwave has entered a deal with global online ticket reseller viagogo.

The deal was sparked by the influx of fraudulent ticket scammers who prey on punters who have missed out on the festival and its sideshows. It will give punters increased access and better security when buying and selling tickets.

Soundwave’s promoter AJ Maddah said: “Over the last few years, we have seen an increasing number of fake tickets and outright scams committed by fraudsters on websites such as Gumtree and I’m very happy to finally be able to offer Soundwave fans a secure platform to buy and sell tickets.

“Having looked at their service and interface with customers, viagogo has a world-class ticketing service that is dependable and safe,” he added.

viagogo’s data on this year’s run reveals there were 87% more searches for the festival than in 2014 and that the line-up, headlined by Slipknot, Faith No More and The Smashing Pumpkins, has created international demand, with more than 30% of searches coming from international buyers.

“From a more selfish point of view, viagogo also provides the festival with a unique platform to reach the global fanbase and expand Soundwave’s footprint internationally,” Maddah said.

viagogo’s ticket options for this month’s Soundwave include two-day passes to all stops, including the last ever Soundwave in Adelaide, from $150 and one-day passes from $132.

viagogo spokesperson Alex Levenson said: “Soundwave is without a doubt the most in-demand rock event in Australia and our partnership will ensure both local and international fans can access legitimate tickets, up to the very last minute. We stand behind every ticket and will provide a replacement or offer a full refund in the unlikely event that something goes wrong.

“viagogo adds Soundwave to an impressive list of Australian partners that includes the Sydney Swans, Collingwood Magpies and Richmond Tigers AFL teams and 2013 NRL Grand Final winners the Sydney Roosters. We’re continuing to revolutionise the way people buy and sell tickets in Australia, to live events both at home and overseas.”
