The Screen Music Awards celebrates composing achievements across feature film, television, documentary, short film and advertising from the last year.

Egizii and Musumeci’s composition for the Rio 2016 Olympics advertisement, with Sarah Aaron and Graham Donald, marks their first Screen Music Awards nod. It is nominated alongside Rafael May’s Cadbury Marvellous Creations, Jeremy Yang’s 2016 AICP Opening and Robert Upward’s composition for Country Racing Victoria: It’s Got it All.

Both former Avalanches member Darren Seltmann and his wife Sally are also first-time nominees. The couple’s collaborative composition, Dancing in the Darkness from ABC comedy The Letdown is up for Best Original Song Composed for the Screen.

Among the nominated pieces is one of last year’s most talked about TV events, the two-part telemovie Peter Allen: Not the Boy Next Door. The screening took home six AACTA Awards last year along with two nominations and two early wins in the 58th TV Week Logie Awards.

The Feature Film Score of the Year category sees Screen Music Award winner and former rock keyboard player David Hirschfelder nominated for his work on The Dressmaker. He’s up against Cezary Skubiszewski for Oddball, Timothy Cheel and Christopher Larkin for Crew Cut and Antony Partos and Matteo Zingales for 99 Homes.

Among the multiple nominees are established composers Antony Partos, Michael Yezerski, David Hirschfelder, Caitlin Yeo, David Bridie, Christopher Larkin, Neil Sutherland, Ricky Edwards, Matteo Zingales, Adam Gock and Dinesh Wicks.
