Commercial Radio Australia have released listening statistics for 2013, and it’s good news for the radio industry.

The cumulative audience has grown by 2.4% since 2012, with more than 9.7 million people listening to metro commercial radio each week.

And despite the plethora of entertainment devices available in 2013, the home was still the main place listeners tuned in last year, making up 45% of all commercial radio listening.

The car accounted for 36% of all radio listeners, up from 34% in 2012, 32% in 2010 and 28% in 2008: a definite (and pleasing) pattern.

17% of the audience listen in the workplace, with the remaining 2% tuning in ’elsewhere’.

Breakfast (from Monday to Friday) had 7 million listeners each week in the metro markets, while Drive (M-F) had almost 6.5 million people tuning in on their way home.

Good news all around.
