Australian acts impress on ARIA mid-year top 100 chart

ARIA has today released mid-year charts for the top 100 albums and singles.

Australian and New Zealand artists hold a heavy presence through both charts; in the top 10 alone they have a 50% share of the Singles chart with Sheppard at #2 (Geronimo), Justice Crew at #5 (Que Sera), Joel Fletcher and Savage at #6 (Swing), Sia at #8 (Chandelier) and 5 Seconds Of Summer at #10 (She Looks So Perfect), and a 20% share of the Albums chart with Lorde at #6 (Pure Heroine) and INXS at #1 (The Very Best of INXS).

ARIA does not release the numbers of records sold therefore it won’t be revealed exactly how many units there are between the chart’s #1 The Very Best of INXS and the ubiquitous, Billboard chart history-making soundtrack for Frozen at #2. However with INXS, Australian Crawl’s Greatest Hits (#41) and The Very Best of Cold Chisel (#91) in the Albums chart, it’s clear re-releases and greatest hits collections will always be a welcome pacifier to Australia’s unwavering nostalgia.

Year-on-year chart favourite ABBA Gold (#55) of course made the list, while tour announcements from iconic lineup revivals and seasoned acts also marked obligatory sales spikes for Fleetwood Mac (The Chain, #64 and The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac, #74), The Eagles (The Very Best Of The Eagles, #82), Bruce Springsteen (Greatest Hits, #86), Guns N Roses (Greatest Hits, #87), and Bon Jovi (Bon Jovi Greatest Hits, #95).

Overall, 24 singles and 35 albums by Australian artists were included in the top 100s, an increase from last year’s mid-year report.
