Sydney’s 5 Seconds of Summer are headed for a #1 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Billboard has predicted the band’s eponymous debut LP will take the top spot when it enters the chart next week. To do so, the album would need to sell 250,000 copies in its first week, marking the third-biggest debut of an album following Coldplay’s Ghost Stories and Eric Church’s The Outsiders.

In April, 5 Seconds of Summer’s EP, She Looks So Perfect, peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart, marking the highest-selling first week album sales by any Australian act since AC/DC’s Black Ice in 2008. The EP hit #1 in Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand and the UK.

Locally, the self-titled album debuted at #1 on July 13; in this week’s ARIA Albums chart it held on to the top 10 with a #6 placement.

The pop band, whose embryonic popularity on social media lead to global label deals just one year into their career, announced an arena tour of Australia last week. The band will perform Sydney’s Allphones Arena, Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, Adelaide’s Entertainment Centre, Perth Arena and Brisbane’s Entertainment Centre in June 2015.
