Tame Impala, Flume & Hillsong among 2021 Grammy nominees

Tame Impala, Flume, Tenzin Choegyal and Hillsong Young & Free were among the list of 2021 Grammy nominations, announced this morning.

Tame Impala are contenders in two categories.

Their album The Slow Rush is up for Best Alternative Album alongside Fiona Apple’s Fetch The Bolt Cutters, Beck’s Hyperspace, Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher, and Brittany Howard’s Jaime.

In addition, the Perth band’s ‘Lost In Yesterday’ is in the Best Rock Song category against Phoebe Bridgers’ ‘Kyoto’, Big Thief’s ‘Not’, Fiona Apple’s ‘Shameika’ and Brittany Howard’s ‘Stay High’.

Flume is nominated for Best Dance Recording with ‘The Difference’ (featuring Toro y Moi) alongside tracks by Diplo & SIDEPIECE, Disclosure (with Aminé & Slowthai), Jayda G, and Kaytranada with Kali Uchis.

The Sydneysider’s Skin won him a Grammy for Best Dance / Electronic Album in 2017.

In the Best Contemporary Christian Music Album category are Hillsong Young & Free with All Of My Best Friends, against releases by Cody Carnes, We The Kingdom, Tauren Wells and Kanye West.

And Tibetan-born Australian Tenzin Choegyal is up for Best New Age Album for Songs From The Bardo with Laurie Anderson and Jesse Paris Smith. They are up against Priya Darshini, Superposition, Jim 'Kimo' West, and Cory Wong & Jon Batiste.

Various Australians have won a Grammy over the years, including AC/DC, Gotye, the Bee Gees, Olivia Newton-John, M-Phazes, Wolfmother, Kylie Minogue and Keith Urban.

In this morning’s announcement, Beyoncé lead the field with a massive nine nominations.

Following with six each were Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and Roddy Ricch.

Brittany Howard did well with her solo step outside Alabama Shakes, with five.

With four nominations each were Megan Thee Stallion, Billie Eilish, Phoebe Bridgers, Justin Bieber and DaBaby.

The 2021 Grammy Awards will be held on January 31 (US time) and hosted by comedian Trevor Noah.
