Kendrick Lamar made history at the 2026 Grammy Awards over the weekend.

Kendrick is now the most decorated Grammy-winning rapper ever, now with a total of 27 awards to his name. That puts him clear of Jay-Z and Kanye West's previous record of 24 wins.

Kendrick was in the mix for a total of nine awards at this year's Grammys, which made him the most-nominated artist of the year.

He bypassed the two hip-hop legends with his wins for Best Rap Album (GNX), Best Rap Song ("TV Off"), Best Melodic Rap Performance ("Luther"), Best Rap Performance ("Chains & Whips"), and Record of the Year ("Luther").

“It is hip-hop as usual, man,” Kendrick told the audience as he accepted the award for Best Rap Album. “I’m not good at talking about myself, but I express it through the music. It’s an honour to be here… Hip-hop is going to always be right here. We are going to be in these suits looking good, having our folks with us. We are going to be having the culture with us.”

Kendrick was first nominated for a Grammy all the way back in 2012 for his breakthrough album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City. His first win came in 2015 for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for “I”.

Kendrick enjoyed a stellar commercial year in Australia in 2025.

The 2026 Grammys was filled with politics, with several big-name artists voicing their anti-ICE sentiment.

Many artist wore anti-ICE pins at the ceremony, while others spoke out during their award speeches.

Bad Bunny, who won three awards on the night, said “Before I say thanks to God, I’m gonna say ICE out. We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens, we’re humans and we are Americans… The only thing more powerful than hate is love so please we need to be different. If we fight, we have to do it with love. We don’t hate them, we love our people, we love our families and that’s the way to do it, we love.”

Billie Eilish, meanwhile, said, “No one is illegal on stolen land. It’s really hard to know what to say or what to do right now… We need to keep fighting and speaking up and protesting.”
