APRA AMCOS and the Australian Music Centre have announced the finalists for the 2019 Art Music Awards.

Brian Ritchie, Katie Noonan and Cat Hope are among the nominees.

This year has seen a record number of nominations to celebrate achievements in Australian contemporary classical, jazz and experimental music.

There are several emerging names among the finalists, as well as healthy number of nominations for categories recognising achievement by organisations, educators and excellence in regional areas.

Significantly, female composers outnumbering men in the Orchestral Work of the Year category – an area where it has been challenging for female composers to secure commissions and performances.

The Art Music Awards will be given in eleven national categories, as well as state or territory awards.

Last month it was announced the 2019 awards would be heading to Sydney, to take place on Monday, August 19 at Sydney University’s Great Hall.
