COOKING VINYL AUSTRALIA PARTNERS WITH TRIPLE CROWN

Cooking Vinyl Australia has entered a new partnership with New York’s Triple Crown Records to represent its product in Australia and New Zealand.

Triple Crown was founded in 1997 by Fred Feldman and has released albums by Sorority Noise, Brand New, Caspian, Kevin Devin, Bad Books, O’Brother, The Receiving End of Sirens, Hot Rod Circuit and The Dear Hunter among others.

Last year Triple Crown won the A2IM Libera Award for “Indie Label Of The Year”.

Feldman said, “Australia has been a growing market for us lately, very excited to be working with Stu [Harvey[, Leigh [Gruppetta] and everyone at Cooking Vinyl Australia to extend our reach there.”

The first release under the new agreement will be Swell, an album by Minnesota’s post-hardcore pop punk Tiny Moving Parts out January 26.

MARLEY AND ME

Bob Marley’s catalogue continues to resound, decades after his death in 1981: his music has generated 1.7 billion streams in the United States alone, and it’s breaking into new music markets as Asia, South America and Africa.

Former record label executive Larry Mestel’s New York-based company Primary Wave, now with fresh $300 million investor funding, has signed a $50 million deal with Island Records founder Chris Blackwell to get 80% of his share in two catalogues, the New York Times reports.

One of these is the Marley catalogue, which gives Primary Waves rights to classics as ‘One Love’ and ‘I Shot The Sheriff’.

Blue Mountain’s catalogue includes songs from Marley, Toots and the Maytals, Free, U2 (although Blackwell retains them), Marianne Faithfull and The Waterboys, among others.

Primary Wave has been successful in tapping what Mestel calls “the icons and legends business.” It has acquired the songs of the likes of Smokey Robinson and Def Leppard, and licenses them aggressively to movies and TV shows.

“We’ve always been a band that wants to stand out and do things differently and from the first meeting with UNFD, we could tell they were on exactly the same page.

“We’ve never felt more excited about our future… and we can’t wait for the chance to go and do some yoga in the Australian sun.”
