With the news of music icon Prince passing away last week, the ARIA charts are set to be inundated with his releases, so much so that it they dwarf any other happenings in the chart.
Fans and contemporaries across the globe have been paying tribute to the legend since his passing on April 21. He passed away alone in an elevator at Paisley Park, Prince’s sporadically used residence, concert hall, soundstage, nightclub and recording studio in Minnesota. The cause of death is still undetermined and results of the autopsy are not likely to be released for a few weeks. As memorials continue all over the globe, fans are remembering the 57-year-old by consuming his vast catalogue with zeal.
On the ARIA Albums chart, Prince’s Ultimate will debut within the Top 5, while Purple Rain and The Hits / The B-Sides will move back into the Top 3. His albums The Very Best Of, HITNRUN Phase One, The Hits 1, Diamonds And Pearls and Sign “O” The Times are all looking to move into the Top 20. Meanwhile Art Official Age and 1999 will make the Top 40 and 50 respectively.
It’s all Prince on the Singles chart as well with Purple Rain and When Doves Cry moving into the Top 3, new peaks for both. His highest charting singles were Batdance and Cream, which both peaked at #2, the latter of which under the moniker of Prince & The New Power Generation.
