Jolyon Petch's 'Dreams' clocks up another milestone by going Platinum

Jolyon Petch's remake of Fleetwood Mac's 'Dreams' has gone Platinum in Australia.

The song peaked at #1 on the ARIA Club Chart and has previously topped the TMN Hot 100 Airplay Chart. It's also up for Best Dance Release at next week's ARIA Awards.

Petch admitted he never expected the latest milestone in his 'wildest dreams', but said it was very welcome news.

"After a year of lockdowns in Victoria, the news of achieving a Platinum record in Australia and a Gold record in New Zealand has meant the world to me, and I'm super happy this tune has connected with so many people," he said.

TMRW Music's head of A&R, Chris Fraser, added: "'Dreams' was always a very special cover from first listen. I'm just delighted to have seen it reach such a wide audience and this result is a massive credit to everyone involved in working on the record."

Petch has previously spoken about how the original Fleetwood Mac song was always a hit as part of his DJ set, so he wanted to see what he could do with his own spin on it.

“‘Dreams’ has always been a crowd favourite in my DJ sets, so whilst we were hunkered down in our strict COVID-19 Level 4 lockdown in Melbourne I thought that was the perfect opportunity to put my own spin on this classic. I actually spent way too much time in the studio on this one just to make sure that I did the original Fleetwood Mac version justice with my new rendition. I called up one of my singers who I knew could smash this vocal out of the park [Reigan Derry] and within 24 hours I had the new vocals back and I got to work finishing off the track.

“Playing it out for the first time at a nightclub was magic as everyone knew the words and this automatically became the biggest track in my DJ sets,” he said ahead of the track's release.

As for what's next, he told Sean Brown's The Vibe podcast that he wants to "create a massive, original song", which is already in the works.

“And that is really working in with some amazing top-line pop vocalists and really just workshopping a big track. And so we’re working on something at the moment, which will be the follow-up to ‘Dreams’.”

And this comes with expectations – both those of new fans, and his own.

“My name’s been smashed all over radio, so I know that people will be going ‘Hey, what’s he going to do next?’ And I don’t want to be that one-hit wonder guy. I can write original stuff, but I want to make it as big as ‘Dreams’ – if not bigger.”
