Chart Wrap: Triple J debuts at #1

Hot 100 This week, Swift still holds #1 with Shake It Off but it seems like the tug of war between the track and Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass is coming to a close as it falls to #5, the lowest it has been in nine weeks. Taking Trainor’s place at #2 is none other than Ed Sheeran with Thinking Out Loud. At #4 is Nathaniel’s Live Louder, which has reached a new peak and ignored predictions of moving down in the chart. Sam Smith’s I’m Not The Only One manages to just sneak into the Top 10 at #10, up from last week’s #14, marking a new peak for the track. Some notable movers this week are Avicii’s The Days which moves up to #17 from #37, a strong position. If the track maintains its current momentum it could very well land inside the Top 10 come next week’s chart. Nico & Vinz’s In Your Arms jumps to #34 from last week’s #70 following a notable increase in airplay this week. The Magician’s Sunlight featuring Years & Years has just missed the Top 30 this week, landing at #31. It is however, this week’s most moved track, moving up 50 positions from #81. In regards to debuts, David Guetta & Sam Martin’s Dangerous enters at #37 this and is also this week’s most added track to radio. At #47 is Wankelmut & Emma Louise’s My Head Is A Jungle which follows across the board adds to the board to the Nova network last week as well as many others. ARIA Singles The ARIA Singles chart sees a new #1 this week in the form of Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud. This becomes Sheeran’s second #1 on the Singles chart, the first being Sing, which peaked in May of this year. Both of the #1’s are off of his #1 charting album X. The Script’s Superheroes reaches a new peak this week at #9, up 30 places from last week’s #39. At #10 is a jump of 40 positions for Avicii’s The Days, which after two weeks of solid airplay progress has now broken into Top 10 of the sales charts. At #15 is a strong debut from Peking Duk with their latest single Take Me Over featuring Safia, the follow up to their previous #5 charting single High. It’s worth noting that this had a debut in the ARIA Dance chart this week, entering at #5. ARIA Albums In what will hopefully be an annual trend, triple j’s Like A Version has debuted at #1 on the ARIA Albums chart. The 10th volume of the covers series is the second to top the ARIA Albums chart, the first being Like A Version 9, which peaked at #1 in October of last year. At #2 is another new debut, the debut album from You + Me, Rose Ave - formed by Alecia Moore (Pink) and Dallas Green (City And Colour). Rose Ave, their debut album, is Moore’s first release since The Truth About Love which peaked at #1 in September of 2012, and is Green’s first since City And Colour’s The Hurry And The Harm which hit #4 in June of 2013. It also becomes his third release to reach the Top 5. The next notable entry on the chart comes from U2 and their controversial new album Songs Of Innocence. The album was originally given away for free on iTunes earlier in September. While the giveaway gave the album a ridiculous amount of attention it hurt album sales, as expected. This ends a streak of #1’s for U2 dating back to 1998 with Rattle And Hum, that’s assuming it doesn’t hit #1 in the next few weeks which at this stage seems unlikely.
