OVERSEAS UNDER THE MICROSCOPE

There’s a new #1 single in the UK as Calvin Harris’ ‘Feels’ ft. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry & Big Sean surpasses powerhouse hit ‘Despacito’, which falls to #2. The Latin smash still managed a hefty 23,471 sales, but was no match for ‘Feels’’ 25,675.

Lana Del Rey has captured her second US #1 album on the Billboard 200 with Lust For Life. She’s the next successor in a string of chart-topping women in 2017. Katy Perry, Halsey and Lorde shared three consecutive weeks at #1 between them last month.

It’s Del Rey’s first chart-topper in the US since Ultraviolence in 2014, while a pair of albums – Born To Die and Honeymoon – both debuted at #2 on the chart.

Meanwhile, industry forecasters in the US suggest country singer Brett Eldredge could make a play at Del Rey’s #1 on the Billboard 200 chart next week. Also vying for the spot is Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN., which could force its way to a fourth week at #1.

If Eldredge were to achieve the feat, it would mark the first country title to hit the top of the Billboard 200 since Jason Aldean did it close to a year ago.

THE HOME FRONT

It wouldn’t be a charts article without mentioning the great Ed Sheeran. Notching his eighteenth non-consecutive week at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, Sheeran now matches The BeatlesAbbey Road, Boz ScaggsSilk Degrees, and Mariah Carey’s Music Box for time spent at the top.

Sheeran’s shot at a nineteenth week will be contested by a resurging Lorde (Melodrama) and Kendrick Lamar (DAMN.).

Australian act Boo Seeka is readying themselves for a Top 5 debut with the newly released Never Too Soon. With stern competition around them, the duo will likely land at either #4 or #5.

According to early numbers, the upper end of the ARIA Singles Chart seems fairly settled this week. The only song destined to crack the Top 10 is French Montana’s ‘Unforgettable’ ft. Swae Lee.

J Balvin and Willy William’s ‘Mi Gente’, while not making an impact this week, is certainly one to watch over the coming weeks. Spotify is going crazy for the Latin single, and if ‘Despacito’ is anything to go off, ‘Mi Gente’ will waste no time in climbing to the top.

TOP PICK

ARIA Albums Chart:

#1. Ed Sheeran - Divide

#2. Lorde - Melodrama

#3. Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.
