5SOS could claim the #1 album in US, UK & Australia this week

Early projections have emerged for one of the week’s biggest new albums.

As one senior executive told TMN this morning, "It's the calm before the storm for 5 Seconds of Summer" and their new album Calm, as the boys make good use of social media to promote the record during the COVID-lockdown in LA.

According to Hits Daily Double, EMI-signed 5SOS should sell 55-65,000 albums in the US this week. With units from track sales and streams included, it may generate 70-80,000 in total first-week consumption.

Data is still rough at this point, but the album does have a shot as the week’s top new release. It should, moreover, be in the mix for a Top 5 debut on the overall album chart if The Weeknd’s After Hours gets a second summit.

Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin, and London-born and Warner-signed Dua Lipa with new album Future Nostalgia, are also battling for #1 on this week’s official album chart in the UK.

Based on sales across the weekend, 5SOS are ahead in the race for the top spot and could be claiming their second UK #1 album this Friday (April 3). The band’s fourth studio album Calm is ahead almost 7,000 chart sales.

Calm is the best-selling album so far this week on physical formats in the UK, and has already outperformed the first-week chart sales of their previous album Youngblood. All three of 5SOS' previous studio albums have hit the Top 3.

Insiders tell TMN it's a "tighter race" in Australia, with Dua Lipa and Pearl Jam's Gigaton all vying for #1. But if radio airplay, reviews from hard-to-please critics and mid-week data remain the constant, 5SOS have it in the bag.
