For the last three years, a group called Know Your Stuff NZ has been secretly holding tests at festivals, finding one in five recreational drugs containing unexpected and sometimes dangerous substances.

The ACT government might have been pro the tests, but because the festival is held on Commonwealth land the federal government could easily sabotage the decision.

Promoters wanted the nation-first initiative to be held at a smaller event.

“We need to leave the dogma and discrimination of those who use drugs behind. After all, not every person who uses drugs is shooting up in a back alley.”
