Zane Lowe has left his role as DJ for BBC Radio 1 to reportedly play an integral part in the formation of Apple's streaming service.

Lowe will move to Cupertino, US to take up an unannounced role with Apple. The rumour mill is already spinning with media reports suggesting he will likely be working across Apple’s upcoming Beats Music-powered streaming service. Gizmodo has reported that Lowe could have taken the role of talent spotter for Apple’s rumoured record label, but it’s more likely he’ll be working across iTunes and iTunes Radio.

Since joining the station in 2003, Lowe has championed emerging artists and even helped break artists including Ed Sheeran and Adele. His producer credits include tracks by Example, Sam Smith, Tinie Tempah and Chase & Status.

The 41-year-old will air his last show on March 5 before Annie Mac takes over on March 9.

TMN has reached out to Apple for comment.
