YouTube adds songwriter, publisher, label credits

YouTube has added songwriting credits to half a billion videos.

MBW reports that the new credits include not only songwriting data but also label and publisher information.

Credits and music discovery information will not only be added to premium music videos, but also fan-uploaded content that features recorded music.

"For over half a billion videos that contain music, when you click 'Show More', you’ll see more detail about the artists and songwriters, and the labels and publishers who represent them, including a link to the Official Artist Channel and official music video when available," explains the a new post on the YouTube for Artists blog.

"Music in this video” strives to provide greater recognition and exposure to the people who contribute to the creative process.

"It also provides more opportunities for artists and songwriters to reach YouTube’s diverse audience, whether those viewers come to the platform for music videos, science experiments or beauty vlogs!"

YouTube explained that the data for the new feature has been come from a combination of metadata from labels, publishers and music licensing societies.

"YouTube is committed to providing recognition to all of the people who contribute to the creative process, and this is just the beginning," explained YouTube further.

"Through our industry partnerships we will expand the scope and quality of data to ensure all creators are credited as completely and accurately as possible."

The latest update comes after YouTube recently rolled out country-specific charts. A recent report also discovered that more music is consumed on YouTube than any other streaming platform.
